It started out so simply.
It was such a lovely day,
So I went out to the backyard,
To have some fun to play.

I only took a few steps.
I didn’t get too far,
When I saw it growing majestically,
Beside an empty jar.

I knew it was a violet.
I’d seen pictures in a book,
So I got down on my hand and knees
To have a closer look.

The colour was amazing!
I could not believe my find!
Then an idea started growing,
Deep down inside my mind.

Purple, purple I love purple!
I love the colour so,
That I would tell all the other colours
They would have to go!

The leaves and grass and trees and shrubs,
Would lose their colour green,
And purple would take their place,
Oh that would be so keen!

Then everything that’s orange and red,
Like flowers in the yard,
Would become the colour purple.
It wouldn’t be that hard.

Then Rover my brown puppy
And Fluffy my white cat,
Would now suddenly be purple.
I’m sure they’d both like that.

The yellow sun up in the sky,
That always shines so bright,
If it were the colour purple,
Then day would be like night.

And if I had a purple sun,
Then a blue sky wouldn’t do,
So I’d have to make it purple,
And all the white clouds too.

I’d look around my backyard,
And smile with such delight,
Cause everything is the colour purple,
But something isn’t right…

I miss the greens of trees and grass,
The orange and reds of flowers.
I miss the yellow of the sun.
I don’t like my purple powers.

So I put the brown back on my puppy,
I turn Fluffy back to white.
I made the sky return to blue
And the bright day back from night.

Now all is as it should be,
And it’s really for the best,
So I’m going back inside the house
To take a nap and rest.

I only went a few steps.
I didn’t get too far,
When I saw it on the kitchen table,
Those GREEN pickles in a jar!

The colour was amazing!
I could not believe my find!
Then an idea started growing,
Deep down inside my mind…

Green, green I love green!
I love the colour so,
That I would tell all the other colours,
They would have to go...
